Essential parts of a website

When you have a website there are some parts of it that are absolutely essential. In this post, we are going to go over the essential parts of a website that you need for success.

An Attention-Grabbing Headline

If you do not have an attention-grabbing headline you may be losing customers. When your customers first visit your website the first thing they see is a headline which will determine if they stay or go to a different site. When crafting your headline be sure to use words that are strong and persuasive. Take a look at our headline as an example.

As you can see our headline and subheader are tailored to success and keeping the customer on the website. Offer your visitors something by using your headline to tell them what you can do for their business or how you can serve them better than the competition.

User-Friendly Navigation

Allowing your customers to navigate your site easily offers an abundance of information they can obtain about your business. When it comes to navigation, consistency is the key! Make sure every page has the same navigation and it is in the same position on every page. If customers cannot access the information they need than they will go somewhere else, you already have them on the site so why not try and keep them there as long as possible. Take a look at our header and take an example of it.

Our navigation is clear with what we can offer and helps customers quickly get to where they need to go.

Effective Sales copy

The words you use to describe your product and its benefits are the key to the success of your business. Your sales copy is the only contact you’ll have with the vast majority of your visitors. That’s why you have to make the most of it!

Your sales copy should:

  • Immediately draw the reader in with exciting benefits and enticing copy so you can lead them toward the sale.
  • Establish your credibility-nobody will buy from you if they don’t feel they can trust you.
  • Describe the benefits of your product or service and explain why your visitors need it.

These tips should help you with creating a very effective sales copy that will draw in the visitors more and persuade them to buy from you.

A Clear Call to Action

Call to actions helps visitors perform an action on your website. By having a clear call to action you are enabling your visitors to see an intent you are trying to do and to help them reach their goal of visiting your website in the first place. Take a look at this call to action on our very own Xenon Cloud website.

A call to action should help a visitor perform an action like signing up for an email list like the example above. You can make a call to action for many things such as purchasing a product or navigating to a different page. The choice is yours when creating call to actions on your website.

Well-Chosen Images

Images make the site come alive if you don’t have images your site is as boring as watching paint dry. Images can really help people visualize your products or services and their benefits. Be sure to include photos of every product you sell. Attractive product shots can really boost your sales. If you have a lot of products for sale, use “thumbnails” that link to larger images. This will make your pages load more quickly. If you’re selling electronically delivered products such as ebooks or software, you may want to create simulated product shots to represent them. This makes your product more tangible to your visitors.

There are many places you can find images for your website. Some of the sites we use are Visual Hunt, Pexels, Burst and Envato Elements. If you already have the images you want to upload make sure they are optimized for the internet and do not slow down the loading of your website.

The best way to establish credibility is to provide evidence that your product or service really works. And the best way to do that is to include testimonials from satisfied customers that explain how your product or service has helped improve their lives. When creating testimonials include names as this boost credibility. Never reuse testimonials on another part of your website always use testimonials you have not used before. The more testimonials you can fit from different people the better your credibility is. If you are using WordPress we recommend using a testimonial plugin as this can be a place you can place all of your testimonials and create different views for different pages. Here is an example of testimonials on a website:

You can see the testimonial at the bottom right, some other sites show testimonials differently it is best to experiment and see what kind of setup works best for you.

An “About Us” page

People are often hesitant to buy things online because they miss the personal interaction of doing business face to face. The best way to overcome their reluctance is to include an “About Us” page that provides information about you, your staff and your business. Be sure to include pictures of yourself and your staff members. This shows your customers they’re doing business with real people and will help ease any worries they might have.

Your Contact Info

A lot of sites forget the most important part, a way for customers to contact you. If you have a contact us page be sure to include your address, phone number, and email. Most sites nowadays have a contact form for customers to send you a question or ask for more resources. Another great thing to include on your contact page is a map, this will show the customer where you are in relation to other businesses.
